As the senior guitar teacher, Glenn Sutton has been instrumental in shaping young musicians for 25 years at Ozzie’s Music. Teaching guitar, electric bass, keyboard, theory and improvisation for over 30 years, he specializes in rock, blues, jazz, Latin, Brazilian, classical, country, folk and other styles of music. Young or old, whether you are a beginner, advanced or a professional looking to further hone your performance chops, your sessions will be tailored to your needs and pace. Says Sutton,
“My main objective as a teacher is to treat each student as an individual. I believe the learning process is too complex to teach each student by the same method. I adjust my teaching for each student.”
For over 30 years, Glenn has experienced the many aspects of being a working, professional musician. From recitals to studio recordings, club and festival gigs, or corporate functions and weddings, he brings the background and practical experience to the practice studio and his students. It is this well rounded background and his patient, easy going manner that give him an edge when preparing his students for musical careers or the enjoyment of making music for pleasure. Drawing on his rock, blues, jazz and classical influences that range from Beatles, Led Zeppelin and the Doors, to B.B. King, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Earl Klugh, or Andres Segovia , he can make the classics, punk, alternative or metal all “come alive in your learning experience.”
Glenn began his musical training at the age of 12 with the study of guitar. He added classical organ lessons by the age of 13. In addition to extensive private lessons, he has studied classical guitar composition under Lee Ryan at SDSU and Jazz Guitar with Bill Coleman. He further expanded his knowledge and experience by studying guitar and electric bass at the Guitar Institute of Technology. Always active in the San Diego music community, he performs in various groups, and a classic rock band in addition to his teaching duties at Ozzie’s Music.
